NetherRealm Studios has been on the reveal roll recently, last week it was Jason Voorhees (available as part of DLC), Shinnok and Kenshi's confirmation, and that the game has unfortunately been delayed on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
During a relative recent stream on Mortal Kombat X's story mode, the developers shared their thoughts and comments on the game's story. What we know from a number of press releases is that the game takes place 25 years after the previous Mortal Kombat, giving Cassie Cage plenty of time to grow up and become a main player in MKX.
NetherRealm’s cinematic director, Dominic Cianciolo, shared a bit of information on where the inspiration of the game was found:
“The story for Mortal Kombat X was inspired a lot by the second of the two Godfather films, in that we have the main story which is telling our primary adventure of dealing with Outworld and civil war with Mileena and Kotal Kahn and also the threat that everyone faces,” Cianciolo said. “But at the same time then, taking spots within the story itself to do flashbacks to wrap up how the last story ended—what transpired based on the cliffhanger we left there, and also allow us to get into the history of the new character we’d added and also find out how some older characters that are returning… what happened to them before we got to the main body of the story.”
So, there might be two parallel stories in MKX told through flashbacks.
Mortal Kombat X will be released on April 14th on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
