Sling TV launches on Xbox One today

Xbox LIVE members treated to one month free trial

The Xbox One has never really been solely a video game console; it has always been referred to as an all in one entertainment console — gaming, TV, and whatever else you need all in one place. But in order to actually watch television through your Xbox One you need a cable or satellite subscription.

Sling TV is looking to change that by finally making its way to the Xbox One. Already available available on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV, the new over-the-top television service launches today on Xbox One . The base package is $20 and comes with a limited number of popular channels, like ESPN, TBS, and HGTV; however, the service offers a number of other channels for $5 per extra package.

Unfortunately, HBO isn't part of the movie package — which means that when Game of Thrones Season 5 launches next month…You will have to find other means to watch it; but, you do get The Walking Dead so that's good.

The best part? Xbox members get a one month free trial!  If you don't own an Xbox One and buy one, you can get three free months of Sling TV.

The base package includes the following channels and content:

  • ESPN
  • ESPN2
  • AMC
  • Food Network
  • El Rey Network
  • HGTV
  • IFC
  • TNT
  • Travel Channel
  • TBS
  • Maker
  • Adult Swim
  • CNN
  • Disney
  • Cartoon Network
  • ABC Family
  • Galavision

To be added to the base package soon:

  • A&E
  • History
  • H2
  • Lifetime

Would you cut your cable subscription for something like Sling TV?
