The Indiegogo campaign to crowdfund Super Troopers 2 officially ended last week with over $4.4 million pledged to the making of the film.
Comedy team Broken Lizard actually hit its initial $2 million goal after just one day, and everything since has been put towards making the film even better through a series of stretch goals.
In total, more than 50,000 people contributed funds to a total of $4,448,505. It's quite an impressive feat — one that shows the desire for a sequel to 2001's indie comedy which followed five Vermont state troopers attempt to solve a crime in order to save their jobs. Unfortunately, the campaign fell short of the "Live bears in the movie" stretch goal of $4.5 million, as well as the "Kickass chase scene" at $4.75 million.
Still, it's pretty impressive that Super Troopers 2 has become the second most successful crowdfunded film behind 2013's Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign.
Despite the campaign ending, it is still possible for you to contribute to make a better movie, so maybe the return of Captain O'Hagan (Brian Cox) isn't impossible.
