Marvel's first female superhero solo film, Captain Marvel, still doesn't have a director or lead actress. It's been rumored for quite some time (at least since February) that Marvel is eyeing Angelina Jolie to direct the film, but there's nothing official as of now.
Jolie has formed a close friendship with Charlize Theron, who is all the rage right now with her latest film Mad Max: Fury Road. People love the movie and love her and she could pretty much get any role she wants right now. Yahoo is reporting now that, through a source, the two are hoping to work together on Captain Marvel, with Jolie directing and Theron playing the titular character.
According to Yahoo, the source said, "Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favorite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal."
While I personally would love for Yvonne Strahovski to play Captain Marvel (she looks the part perfectly and she's a mighty fine actress), it's hard to deny how awesome Charlize Theron would be. Captain Marvel is currently slated for a November 2, 2018 release. Here is the full line-up of Marvel movies releasing over the next few years:
