All of Destiny: The Taken King’s new content detailed in one video

Our first look at Destiny's massive new expansion

With Destiny: The Taken King announced, Bungie has just published a new video taking a look at all of the new content and features coming in the massive expansion.

The Taken King is the largest addition to the Destiny universe, building upon the game and its two previously released expansion — The Dark Below and House of Wolves. With The Taken King, Destiny's universe will grow with  an all-new campaign centered on Oryx, the father of the Crota whom you've probably slain countless times by now. Now armed with a "dark power beyond anything we've yet to face," Oryx has returned with an evil army of corrupted Taken (combatants ripped out of our dimension and sent back with new powers and abilities).

In addition to the new campaign, The Taken King will also bring three new Guardian subclasses: Sunbreaker (Solar Titan), Stormcaller (Arc Warlock), and Nightstaler (Void Hunter).

There will also be a nice mix of PvE and PvP content. There's new Strikes and a new Raid "that will put players to the ultimate test." You can assume new gear and rewards will be introduced as rewards.

On the PvP side of things, there are new Crucible maps, and even a new mode — Mayhem — which is essentially Team Deathmatch but with Ability energy and Super energy recharge really quickly. The result? Well, it's in the name. Rift is Destiny's answer to a capture the flag style objective mode; in it, your team has to grab the Spark and bring it to the enemy team's Rift.

All of these features and modes can be seen in more detail in the video above.

"The Taken King is the next evolution of the saga, kicking off another great year of Destiny," said Harold Ryan, president of Bungie. "What's exciting for the studio is to continue to open new experiences for our existing, passionate community and to welcome new players to Destiny. We've loved listening to players' reaction so far and have provided nearly 30 updates along the way to continue to grow the universe. Our active players are still spending about three hours a day playing so it's important we give them a world to engage with and surprise them with new activities in The Taken King in September."

The Taken King is set for release on September 15, 2015. For those who have yet to pick up Destiny, there's a new Legendary Edition which bundles the game and all three of the expansions — The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King — for $59.99.
