Doctor Who spinoff, Class, set to premiere in 2016

Author Patrick Ness helms new show

Doctor Who spinoff series, Class, is set to debut stateside in 2016 on BBC America, it was recently announced at TCA (Television Critics Association).

Class is an eight-part series created by Patrick Ness, the author who wrote the “A Monster Calls" books, that's been compared to other young adult fiction such as Buffy and Hunger Games. Set in contemporary, unprotected London, darkness is lingers as incredible dangers break through the walls of time and space.

“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself,” said Ness about his first television series. “I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of ‘Class,’ to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams."

Ness will be joined by executive producers from Doctor Who, Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin, and it will be a co-production between BBC America and BBC Cymru Wales.

Class was already set to premiere on BBC Three in the UK this year.
