Electronic Arts had nothing but praise for developer Respawn Entertainment, noting in its post-earnings financial call that the currently in-development Titanfall sequel is "looking fantastic."
"Our relationship with Respawn is extremely strong, we have great faith in that entire team to build a spectacular game," Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgenson said. We haven't heard much regarding the Titanfall sequel, but Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella confirmed last year that it would not be an Xbox One exclusive like its predecessor.
Jorgenson expressed EA's "excitement" for the upcoming sequel to 2014's blockbuster shooter, but couldn't offer further details on the game. He did say, however, that more details will be shared "in the months ahead" — presumably around E3 in June.
EA is changing things up this year, choosing not to participate in the festivities at E3. Instead, the company recently announced EA Play, a separate event that'll take place a few days before the annual industry event. EA Play is being designed as more of a "fan experience," giving gamers a chance to test out some of EA's biggest upcoming games. Presumably Titanfall 2 will be on hand or at least shown in some capacity.
"Hosting our own event allows us to connect directly with our players and create a meaningful experience for them," EA said at the time of the announcement.
EA will still hold a press briefing, but it will be held on Sunday, June 12th instead of its traditional spot on the Monday before E3's show floor opens.
Titanfall 2 doesn't yet have a release date, but previous statements called for a fiscal 2017 release. EA's FY2017 runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, so it's possible that Titanfall 2 could be EA's big holiday release for 2016. Titanfall originally released on Xbox One and PC in March 2014.
