Final Fantasy XV release date event detailed, new character revealed

Looks freakin' amazing

During last night's Active Time Report, Square Enix revealed some new details on Final Fantasy XV as well as its release date.

According to the publisher, the release date will be revealed during an event in Los Angeles on March 30th, 2016. Dubbed Final Fantasy Uncovered, we'll finally learn the release date as well as hear other new "surprises". A 2016 release is still confirmed for Xbox One and PS4, but unfortunately we'll have to wait another two months to find out exactly when..

Square Enix also revealed a new character called Aranea Highwind. As a Commander of the Airborne Division of the Nilfheim Imperial Army, her strikes are focused on aerial attacks. Although not a playable character, she does represent a formidable opponent which was on display in the Active Time Report. Those of you who watched the event may have picked up on a new magic system on display. Spells will now have AoE patterns (Area of Effect) and impact enemies in the surrounding area. During the broadcast, you can see that fire spells woud torch the ground in flames, and any enemies touching them would lose health. Although we've had spells in Final Fantasy in the past which have impacted multiple enemies at once, this will be the first time that the effects will linger past the initial cast of the spell itself.

More details are set to be announced at the event March 30th, and another demo wasn't exactly ruled out either. You can see the entire Active Time Report below, and we'll update you with more info as it's available
