Portal, Half-Life movies still being made, says J.J. Abrams

It's something

Movies based on Valve’s Portal and Half-Life are actively being written, according to Star Wars Director J.J. Abrams.

“We’ve got writers and we’re working on both stories,” Abrams told IGN. “But nothing that would be an exciting update.”

Clearly the films are far from completion, but progress is progress. Portal and Half-Life films were first revealed in 2013, and virtually nothing has been said of them since. At the time, Polygon reports, Valve boss Gabe Newell said Abrams’ proposal was the first to do Half-Life justice, and that the two had begun “to do more than talk.” The Portal movie has been quieter still.

Provided their films do eventually release, Portal and Half-Life will join a storm of video game movie adaptations. Hollywood’s roster already includes World of Warcraft, Uncharted, God of War, Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed, with Bethesda reportedly open to a Fallout film.
