The Minecraft movie officially gets its release date

It's still a ways off, but at least it's something to looks forward to

Minecraft fans rejoice! Mojang has officially announced the release date for the upcoming Minecraft movie which is being directed by Rob McElhenney of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame. The movie will be releasing Memorial Day weekend on May 24, 2019. Mojang took to their official website to announce the news.

"Hello future Minecraft movie-goers!

I know you’ve been thinking just about every day, “When’s the Minecraft movie coming out?” Luckily for you, we can finally say!

The Minecraft movie will be released on May 24, 2019! The film will also be released in 3D & IMAX.

Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?

That’s it for now, but as time goes on we’ll share loads more. Loads!"

Very little is actually known about the movie, which isn't surprising given how far away it is. One possible source of direction could come from Telltale's Minecraft: Story Mode which has (mostly) successfully created a narrative within a game world that previously had none.

Minecraft officially unveiled a new update called "Realms" at E3 2016, where players will be able to create dedicated servers that never shut down regardless of who is online.
