FIFA 17’s Physical Play Overhaul trailer is here!

The game has changed

When EA Sports announced an overhaul in physical play in FIFA 17 during their E3 press conference, it might not have come across as convincingly as other features, maybe even as a yearly con for some people.

However, judging by the trailer above, it seems that EA Sports has been hard at work in delivering an improved experience in physical play.

In previous FIFA titles there has been very much a focus on pace as opposed to strength, take Ultimate Team as a prime example.

It would seem – per these adjustments – that players will be able to use their body strength to manoeuvre the ball into pockets of space like never before, and holding up the ball in a manner that suits players that may feel burdened in games from years gone by.

For example, Germany's only prolific number nine at EURO 2016, Mario Gomez, is not the quickest of forwards and might usually be overlooked on FIFA because he doesn't have the pace of a Marco Reus or Andre Schurlle card.

But, with these tweaks to physical gameplay, players like Mario Gomez should be able to offer a different threat as an effective target man.

Physical play improvements could pave the way for people that play online with a variety of play styles as well, which would also be a welcome change.
