Marvel announces ‘The Avengers Project’ with Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics

Is Marvel resurrecting their cancelled 'Avengers' first person shooter?

Marvel has announced a new game coming in partnership with Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics.

Yesterday, Marvel posted a very surprising image on their Instagram page saying they plan to make some big announcement the morning of January 26th with the phrase “Save the Date”. With so many projects on the horizon in the collective realm of movies, television, and the comics themselves, it was difficult to pinpoint what this news could be. The cryptic nature of the post only fueled the speculation game, as per usual. The guesses ranged from the first ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ trailer all the way to the announcement of an entire Marvel theme park, similar to the ‘Star Wars’ park on the way. Fortunately, fans were well rewarded for their patience and loyalty.

As of this morning, Marvel has officially revealed that they have teamed up with Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics to give us a new game they’ve dubbed ‘The Avengers Project’!

This is clearly just a teaser trailer and no info other than the fact that this game is coming has been dropped. According to Square Enix CEO, Phil Rogers:

“Marvel’s diverse, innovative universe has created millions of longtime fans, including all of us. It’s exciting to bring together Square Enix’s award-winning development studios with Marvel’s extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse.  This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before.”

Until we get some more intel, we can only guess what’s in store for fans and gamers. One theory might suggest, thanks to their campaign using #Reassemble, Marvel finally has the capital to resurrect their once thought dead ‘Avengers’ based first person shooter, much in the vain of ‘Overwatch’ or ‘Team Fortress 2’.

Time will tell what this game will mean for the future of the franchises connected to it, so stick with us for more on its development!
