Indie developer Elden Pixel has finally released their Greenlit NES-inspired game, Alwa's Awakening on Steam. The game is designed as a love letter to the days of 8-bit gaming and doesn't skimp on the charm of its world or the difficulty of its gameplay.
In Alwa's Awakening, you play as Zoe; a heroine sent from another world to bring peace to the aptly named land of Alwa. With your Magic Staff in hand to help you traverse the land and master the game's heavy combat, players set forth into an unforgiving and old school world where waypoints are non-existent, forcing players to explore and uncover where to go next on their own.
Alwa's Awakening offers an interconnected world where players will explore and discover secrets, tackle puzzles, and defeat enemies and powerful bosses. Yup, just like the olden days.
Here's a feature list, courtesy an official Press Release:
- A challenging NES-inspired adventure game
- Use the magic staff to solve puzzles and defeat enemies
- Find and unlock upgrades to your items and abilities
- Explore a large interconnected map in true 'Metroidvania' style
- A soundtrack consisting of over 25 8-bit tracks.
Alwa's Awakening is available now on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux and retails for $9.99.
