Days Gone’s brutal world will make you Fight for Survival

This isn't one of your typical Zombie games

Sony just released a new gameplay trailer for Days Gone, their highly anticipated open-world zombie action game coming out this April. This third entry of the World Video Series is focusing entirely on the unforgiving and harsh zombie-infested world. Check it out!

Zombie games are pretty well-known in gaming. The mindless and disposable deceased usually make for a nice experience. Shooting dumb and slow undead has long relegated the iconic enemy type into little more than a nuisance and cannon fodder. But the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Days Gone is shaping up to overthrow this preconception. Fighting for Survival is the newest entry of Days Gone’s video series which aims to prepare players for what’s in store come April. And from what we’ve seen so far, Days Gone could very well become a new hallmark among the crowded zombie-action genre.

Confonting Freakers, Days Gone’s take on zombies, are anything but a mindless endeavor. Besides their sheer creepiness, Freakers offer some choice characteristics that let them stand above the many incarnations in other games. For one, Freakers aren’t just a hindrance on your way. These tenacious monsters are more feral than lethargic. While the large arsenal of weapons can make quick business of small packs, Freakers can also appear in massive hordes that will overwhelm any number of bullets. So, taking your time to observe these hordes to circumvent them or if you’re that maniacal, lure them towards hostile humans is the name of the game here.

Talking about combat, we also learn more about the gunplay. Similar to Max Payne games, a focus mode can be activated in combat that will definitely come in handy when you absolutely need to make sure every bullet lands on its target, giving the player a much-needed edge on the battlefield. As is usual in zombie-wasteland games, melee combat will also play an important role in Days Gone. Whether it’s to eliminate enemies quietly, saving up on precious ammo or getting out of dangerous close-quarter encounters quickly, taking care of your melee arsenal by repairing them will be crucial.

Days Gone is coming out in just two months, on April 26 exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
