UK retailer GAME has been shifting stock like one of those peculiar dealers with a white van. The outlet has admitted to purchasing Nintendo 3DS consoles from Tesco through their special launch offer and then selling the devices as preowned.
Eurogamer managed to acquire an internal document that encouraged GAME staff to make the most of Tesco’s launch offer, which had the 3DS priced at £175 when bought with any 3DS game for £34.90. “Whilst we are unable to competitively match this offer in terms of a mint price, it offers a great opportunity to gain 3DS consoles and games for your store’s pre-owned stock,” the document reads.
GAME imposed a maximum fee of £1049.50 per trip to Tesco, amounting to five bundles’ worth. The “mission” was not mandatory, though according to a Eurogamer source, one store was reprimanded for not taking part in the initiative.
This isn’t the first time that GAME has taken advantage of other outlet’s offers. In 2008, supermarket chain Sainsbury’s sold Xbox 360 Arcade consoles for £99, and the GAME CEO at the time, Lisa Morgan, admitted that staff had been encouraged to purchase stock.
