Media: Chinatown Wars Footage Surfaces in the ‘Late Night’

Rockstar is a company that has traditionally been very hush hush about products that they have in development. Overturning their former legacy of silence, they have released a trailer for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, that has been running in the late night time slot amongst the likes of ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien.’ Imagine that, a GTA game that has to be advertised after dark…

First of all, let me note that it is very strange that the first snippets of gameplay footage that I have ever seen of this game is nothing more than a header for a GameStop advertisement. Actually, now that I think about it, that just makes me sad.

Personal disappointments aside, the game looks to have all of that ironic political satire that we love in Grand Theft Auto games. When Rockstar was able marry their trademark malice with stylus controls, they were producing a match made in heaven. Plus, the mission structure of past GTA games lends itself perfectly to playing in short bursts, a necessity for portable platforms.

Also, if you were paying close attention to the end of the ad, you may have noticed that the pre-order bonus for the game was once again, spelled out pretty emphatically:

“Pre-order Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS and start with $10,000 dollars and the best weapons. Only at GameStop…”

So is that enough to entice you to pre-order the game? Oddly enough, I actually like to play my games to acquire money and weapons. How about you?
