I’ve always had a hard time getting into these racing sims. Nothing against them; simply, they’re not my cup of tea. However, when Microsoft released Forza a few years ago, I picked that up and gave it another go. Since then, I’ve slowly been getting more and more into realistic racing simulators, and for the first time, I am really digging a Gran Turismo game.
I picked up Gran Turismo 5 Prologue this weekend, and within a few races, I felt the sense of addiction growing. There’s something about the title that makes me want to keep playing and playing and unlocking more and more cars. I’m sure if you’ve been playing the Gran Turismo series all along this isn’t news to you, but for me it’s something never before experienced. I can’t wait to unlock more cars and polish my driving skills. Currently, I’m driving a Mazda RX7 and a Honda Integra. I tried to go for the Beamer right out of the gate, but I didn’t quite have the money.
On another note, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is gorgeous. I’m playing in 1080p, and it looks so good at times it suffers from the uncanny valley effect (if you’re not familiar with the term, it means when something artificial looks so realistic that the smallest imperfections make it look jarringly unrealistic). Plus, GT5 Prologue has a fantastic in-car view, which is something Forza 2 lacked. I’m a big sucker for detailed car interiors, so that was a big disappointment with Microsoft’s racing sim.
I haven’t checked out the game online yet, but I plan to tonight. Anyone else try it online yet? How’s it handle? Lag-free, I hope?
