Dead or Alive 3DS Gets a Title, Details.

The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed that Tecmo’s planned Dead or Alive title for the 3DS will be a full-fledged fighting game in the series. The issue reveals some characters, features, images, and the name.

Dead or Alive Dimensions according to Famitsu, will not be a side game like Xtreme Beach Volleyball which recently got a portable entry of its own on the PSP.  Dimensions will be a one-on-one fighting game that will retain the franchise’s signature features like danger zones in its arenas.

Famitsu only confirmed some of the playable characters which include the ninjas Kasumi, Ayane, and Hayate. Hayabusa already showed up in screenshots at E3 2010.  One other character in the screenshots looks like Raidou – a boss character from the original DOA.

There are still no details on when Dimensions (or any 3DS game for that matter) will release. There’s a good chance though that it may already face competition in the fighter genre on 3DS from the version of Super Street Fighter IV Capcom has planned for that platform.

Assuming the game comes out in 2011, Dimensions will be the first DOA fighting game in six years since Dead or Alive 4 which came out on the Xbox 360 in 2005. It will be the first DOA fighter to appear on a non-Xbox console since Dead or Alive 2 debuted in 2000 on the Dreamcast and PS2. Most importantly, it will be the first DOA fighter Tecmo makes without the involvement of series creator Tomonobu Itagaki who departed the company in 2008 and is now directing Devil’s Third at his new company Valhalla Game Studios.
