Today Shu Yoshida, president of SCE Worldwide Studios, announced on the PlayStation Blog that The Legend of Dragoon would be available on PSN starting May 1.
In the post, Yoshida recalls working on the project, which was gearing up around the same time as Ape Escape and Ico. Over 100 people were assigned to The Legend of Dragoon alone, and 10 artists were tasked with creating concept art. The finished game, which contained a considerable amount of pre-rendered maps and full-motion video, required four discs — the most a game case could hold at that time.
After three years in development, the game hit Japan in December 1999 and the US in June 2000. Yoshida mentions that a sequel entered preproduction after his departure from Japan Studio but was canceled for unstated reasons.
