It has been confirmed that GameStop will now begin to carry Steam Wallet cards. News broke out when an anonymous source sent some pictures to Joystiq depicting an in-store ad for the cards, which are valued at $20 and $50.
News of GameStop selling Steam cards broke out last week, and a picture taken at the time all but confirmed that the massive games retailer would be teaming up with the popular digital download site.
In case you're wondering how this will all affect Impulse, GameStop's own digital platform, Manager of PC Digital Distribution for GameStop Steve Nix told Joystiq, "Really, this doesn't affect anything we're doing with Impulse. We doubled the PC download business with the Impulse technology we acquired. We're happy with that."
Additionally, Nix stated that Steam Wallet cards aren't exclusive to GameStop — they are, however, currently only available at the retailer. If Valve wishes to release the cards elsewhere, it certainly can. That said, the deal came about when Nix visited Valve and first proposed it a few months ago.
I'm not going to lie. I'll probably never purchase Steam Wallet cards. If, however, you don't own a credit (or debit) card, or you're afraid of the internet stealing your moneys, well, you now have that option.
