Divorce can't slow down Maverick. He just wants to be shown the money. Tom Cruise is starring in the movie Oblivion with Morgan Freeman (the best voice in Hollywood). The first shots of him filming are hitting the web, and they're blurry and not really showing anything. But the movie sounds amazing. Cruise is in the role of Jack Harper — not to be confused with his new movie Jack Reacher. He really loves playing characters named Jack, right?
According to Collider, these are the official details of the movie:
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
Oblivion will be shot in stunning digital 4K resolution on location across the United States and Iceland.
Pretty cool, right? That TRON: Legacy director they mention is Joseph Kosinski. In addition to Cruise, the movie also stars Morgan Freeman (Bucket List), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Kingdom of Heaven), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), and… Dane Cook? Yea, Dane Cook is listed on the IMDB page. Go figure.
Oblivion is set to hit theaters July 19, 2013. In the mean time, look at this set photos. [Photos courtesy of Comicbookmovie.com]
