Jeremy Renner doesn’t need a mask and a cape to beat ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ at the box office

The Dark Knight Rises has been untouchable in the box office for three weeks. Total Recall couldn't come close to dethrone the Caped Crusader. Which movie was going to be the one to pull a 'Bane' and take the top box office spot away from Gotham and give it to the people? Turns out you don't need to be trained by the League of Shadows to be the top spot. Just be a chemically trained soldier.

The Bourne Legacy took in just over $40 million this past weekend, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. New Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis movie The Campaign, which we rated a 1.5 out of 5 stars, came in second with $27.4 million. For The Bourne Legacy, the total brings it to where the first two movies in the series performed, but was well under the $69 million that The Bourne Ultimatum earned with its opening back in 2007.

Where does this leave Batman? The Dark Knight Rises earned 19.5 million this past weekend — still respectable — bringing its domestic total to $390 million. As the summer of blockbuster action movies winds down, we only have Expendables 2 left, opening this weekend.
