Xbox LIVE security ‘proof’ emails are legit

Microsoft's Larry Hryb, or better known as Major Nelson, assured fans today that emails concerning Xbox LIVE's security are legit.

The email talks about improving the security of your Xbox LIVE account using the new "proofs" security feature. It suggests you add a phone number and alternative email address to help make it easier to resolve potential security issues that may arise in the future.

"If you already have a proof on your account, you might need to use that proof to verify the addition of your new proof," Microsoft explains. "It's that simple."

Regardless of how creative you think your password is, hackers can always find a way in (just see what's happening with Guild Wars 2), so I suggest following Microsoft's recommendations.

The email should look similar to the one Major Nelson used as an example.
