For the week of November 5, 2012, Halo 4 was the top played game on Xbox LIVE.
Halo 4, which release on November 6, overtook Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition — both of which had been previously fighting for the top seed. Minecraft finally took the top spot for the week of October 15, but the very next week Modern Warfare 3 was back at the top. Now, based on unique users, Halo 4 appears to be the new leader.
Will it last for longer than a week though? Yesterday marked the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the sequel to2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops which, despite being out for two years now, remains the fourth most active game on Xbox LIVE.
If Black Ops 2 has the same success as Black Ops, which all signs currently point to, it's hard to believe Halo 4 will remain the most played. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 shattered pre-order records set last year by Modern Warfare 3 and has been said to be on its way to a "historic launch."
Still, I wouldn't count out Halo 4 just yet. Day one sales of the game surpassed $220 million and, last week, 343 Industries revealed that more people played Halo 4 in the first 24 hours than any other Halo launch day in history."
I think it's safe to say that regardless of the leader, all games are enjoying success in the Xbox LIVE area. What game are you enjoying on Xbox LIVE right now?
