Take-Two renews trademarks for Rockstar’s Agent

Publishing parent Take-Two Interactive has renewed two trademarks for Rockstar's Agent, a PlayStation 3 exclusive that was first announced at E3 2009.

First spotted by Siliconera, the pair of trademarks reference the game's name and its logo, which "consists of the word 'AGENT' with the shape of a handgun comprising the internal section of the letter 'G'."

Agent was originally described as an espionage game set during the Cold War in the late 1970s. Following the game's reveal in 2009, things went dark with no news or info appearing until May 2011 when it was confirmed that Agent was still in develop and still a PS3 exclusive.

So what exactly does this renewal of trademarks mean? For starters, it could mean that Take-Two is simply trying to protect its property. With Grand Theft Auto 5 due out in September for current-gen consoles, though, it's not hard to believe that Agent has made the jump to next-gen and will be Rockstar's first project for the PlayStation 4 — and maybe the Xbox One as well. For what it's worth, Rockstar's Agent website still says "coming soon" to PS3, but who knows when this was last updated.

Sony has said more games will be announced at Gamescom. So until then, we wait.
