How you can extend the PS4’s DualShock 4 battery life

The PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 is undoubtedly a huge improvement over the DualShock 3. But if there's one thing its predecessor had over it, it's battery life. With just seven to eight hours of life, the DualShock 4's battery is one of the primary complaints; but, it's a complaint that could be addressed with a simple, relatively cheap purchase.

Reddit user Scooby_609 claims he found a way to extend the DualShock 4's battery life without having to mod the controller. It simply involves purchasing the aftermarket DualShock 3 batteries which apparently fit perfectly in the DualShock 4. The DS4 users a 3.65V 1000mAh battery; the one he got for just under $9 was a 3.7v 1800mAh.

"I have gone from around 8 [hours] per charge to nearly 14 [hours] per charge with the new batter!" He claims. We haven't personally tested this method, but if your the type of risk-taker who doesn't mind potentially voiding the warranty, then let us know how it works.

Of course, a cheaper alternative to buying a new battery would simply be to take advantage of the PS4's standby mode. In this low-power state, you can plug in and charge your controller while you sleep. Unfortunately, this doesn't help those of you who play games for 8 straight hours.
