17-year-old Homeworld: Cataclysm, now re-named Emergence, has surfaced as an exclusive on GOG.com

Back in 2015, developer Gearbox released the Homeworld Remastered Collection, which modernized one of the greatest RTS' on PC. Unfortunately, the collection was not complete as one of the original games' expansions; Cataclysm was not included. There haven't been any official reasons given, but by and large, the Expansion was thought lost to time as there weren't any means of acquiring it digitally. That has all changed as GOG.com and Gearbox announced today that the DRM-free digital games retailer has added the expansion to their catalog, and is now named Homeworld: Emergence.

The reason for the name change is that Blizzard has now registered the word "Cataclysm" in association with their expansion for World of Warcraft, so to avoid any confusion and legal issues, the expansion is now fittingly called Emergence. It's worth noting that Emergence does not work with the Homeworld Remastered Collection, as it only works with the original version of the game. Fortunately, all of GOG's Homeworld games are on sale (including Emergence), so you can grab them all at a discount.

Emergence brought many improvements to the base game when it originally released back in August of 2000. These improvements include ship upgrades, the ability to toggle time compression, and an improved user-interface and added 3D features. It also comes with its own campaign, a new race, and new units and technologies.
