The jury is still out regarding the success of the Wii U. Nintendo's new console, which officially released in the United States on November 18, had impressive pre-order numbers, but many continue to wonder if the Wii U can replicate the success of its predecessor, the Wii.
There certainly seemed to be a lot of skepticism in the months leading up to its launch, especially with the idea that next-gen consoles from Sony and Xbox could be announced as early as next year. Although there's still doubt among investors and industry analysts, one person confident in the Wii U is 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann who earlier this week expressed his belief in Nintendo.
“Nintendo always impresses and surprises me,” he told MCV. “The team there has so much knowledge built up over many, many years. Nintendo always finds its crowd.
"There have been people doubting the Wii U because they don’t really understand it. I wasn’t sure about the Wii and I was proved wrong, proved wrong by my own people, which I like the most because we sold a lot of Carnival Games. I believe the Wii U offers something special and we will be surprised how consumers will get attached," he added.
“There’s nothing in my body, not a single piece, doubting that the Wii U will be successful," Hartmann concluded.
Although 2K had success with Carnival Games and is very high on the Wii U, it doesn't necessarily mean we'll see some of its larger titles make their way to the Wii U. We did get NBA 2K13 though, so that's a start.
