$300,000 deal secured OnePlus’ place in House of Cards

The Whitehouse… A place where one man stands side-by-side with the First Lady, a dedicated home for the President of the United States of America, and a place where you can now spot a OnePlus smartphone – thanks to House of Cards.

A chance for product placement was seemingly seized upon by Chinese technology company, OnePlus, as their devices were on show during the latest season of House of Cards.

OnePlus reportedly paid a sum of £300,000 for their inclusion, joining the likes of Apple, Samsung and Dell in the popular TV show's return.

House of Cards' fourth season premiered over the weekend and has had significant fanfare ever since, not to mention the amount of time it's been trending on Twitter. With such fanfare came opportunity though, and an opportunity potentially well seized upon by OnePlus – who typically keep marketing costs low, according to Business Insider UK.

Some fans have been quick to spot a number of the show's stars handling the new devices, but it seems not every brand that features on the show is required to pay as OnePlus did.

For example, Miniclip's Agari.io – a reasonably new mobile video game – was included in episode eight completely free of charge.

"We received a call from the 'House of Cards' production team, out of the blue. They already knew about the game and wanted to include it in the show, and naturally we were delighted" said spokesperson Ben Meakin, during an interview with Business Insider UK.
