EA has released a new video for Battlefield 5, detailing lots of info about the singleplayer, multiplayer and battle royale modes as well as post-launch support. The 6-Minute trailer shows a ton of gameplay, so make sure to check it out.
Titled This is Battlefield 5, the new video showcases in great detail what Dice’s newest combined arms FPS game has on offer. Very quickly, we are introduced to the main game modes. Singleplayer, Multiplayer and Battle Royale. Of course, the last has a special meaning since its the first time in Battlefield history that such a game mode is being included.
We immediately are introduced to Battlefield’s newest multiplayer mode, Firestorm. This is Battlefield 5’s own take on the battle royale genre. A total of 64 players will battle to the last man, or rather squad, standing. Divided into 16 squads with 4 players each, Firestorm won’t likely have much downtime. Even more so, considering that signature features such as vehicular combat and destructible buildings will be present. Dice is promising the largest Battlefield map ever in Firestorm, which should be gargantuan as the series is already well-known for large maps.
Besides Firestorm, the campaign portion of Battlefield 5 will see the return of War Stories. Split into 6 separate chapters, this anthology aims to highlight some untold stories of World War II. The trailer gives a sneak peek at two, with Nordlys and Under No Flag. Nordlys takes place in Nazi occupied Norway and tells the story of a female resistance fighter and Under No Flag follows the journey of a British criminal using his unique skills against the Germans in North Africa.
Of course, the multiplayer portion of Battlefield games are the bread and butter of the series and Battlefield 5 looks to have plenty of content and updates in this mode. 8 multiplayer modes will be available at launch, spanning a varied selection of maps. Close-quarter battles in the city of Rotterdam, epic tank battles in the desert and much more.
As a real surprise comes the announcement that Dice is doing away with the Premium Pass, making all post-launch content available for every player. And Dice has great plans for these. With Tides of War, Dice wants to keep players hooked on a community-driven mode which is set to receive weekly and even daily content updates. The first chapter of the evolving journey through World War II will launch alongside with the game and will span several months of battles in France. In early 2019, the second chapter is planned to focus on the resistance in Greece.
There’s so much more in the video, enhanced movement options, refined combat mechanics and even the option to construct fortifications. It’s kind of understandable the game got delayed a bit.
Battlefield 5 releases on November 20th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
