Vanity Fair is running a huge feature on Star Wars: The Last Jedi this month. Along with this, a large group of shots has been revealed. Both on-set and off-set photos taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz include a first look at two new characters played by Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Ryan Johnson described Del Toro's character, stating that he is unnamed in the movie, but on set he was known as "DJ". He states "You'll see–there's a reason why we call him DJ." Dern's character meanwhile, is a resistance officer named Vice Admiral Holdo.

The rest of the images shows familiar characters, either posing for the camera or hanging out on the set. Our favorite one is a loving picture of Luke and Leia, brother and sister reunited.

Johnson hinted at some different locations we can expect in The Last Jedi. One such location is a "casino city" called Canto Bight.

"[It's a] Star Wars Monte Carlo–type environment, a little James Bond–ish, a little To Catch a Thief. It was an interesting challenge, portraying luxury and wealth in this universe. I was thinking, OK, let's go ultra-glamour. Let's create a playground, basically, for rich assholes."

He states that this Canto Bight would serve as a happy, comedic setting for the film, as many other beats may be heavy and serious. "So one thing I've tried really hard to do is keep the humor in there, to maintain the feeling, amid all the heavy operatic moments, that you're on a fun ride."
