Activision Boss thinks Destiny 1 failed to ‘keep up with the demand for new content’

The original Destiny was certainly a polarizing game. On the one hand, it didn't measure up to the hype it generated pre-launch as something truly revolutionary. On the other, there was no doubt that gamers were drawn to the game and kept playing and purchasing its DLC through the years. That DLC is something of a sticking point for Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg who spoke with GI.biz on a number of company topics.

"I have not been happy with the cadence [of new content]," he said.

"We got a lot right with Destiny 1, but one of the things we didn't do was keep up with the demand for new content. I feel like that, as great as [DLC packs] The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King and Rise of Iron all are, clearly there was appetite for more."

Hirshberg confirms that the game will have a greater number of developers supporting it, including Vicarious Visions and High Moon, enabling the company to maintain a "robust pipeline of content" into the future.

In terms of its content, Destiny 2 will be upping the ante on story, and the developers are making a greater effort to make the game more "compatible with real life." PS4 players will once again have the advantage on exclusive content, and Xbox One and PC players won't be getting the add-ons until sometime in 2018.

Destiny 2's Beta is going down later this month on PS4 and Xbox One, starting on July 18th and 19th respectively for those who pre-order and on the 21st for everyone else. The beta will run until July 23rd, so you won't have long to give the game a test drive.

Destiny 2 releases on Xbox One and PS4 on September 8th and on PC on October 24th.
