As expected, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will have a re-imagined version of Nuketown, a popular map from the previous Black Ops game. Previously exposed on a promotional sign, Activision has now confirmed that the Nuketown multiplayer map, now dubbed "Nuketown 2025", will be made available as a pre-order incentive for Black Ops 2. Anyone who pre-orders the game will get this downloadable bonus map for free.
"Multiplayer fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops LOVE Nuketown," said Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia. "Flat out, Nuketown was a blast to play before, and we're excited about the re-imagined Nuketown 2025 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. We can't wait to play with everyone come this November."
For those who didn't play the original Black Ops, Nuketown was a small multiplayer map – one of the smallest maps in the Call of Duty series – based on a typical U.S. suburb used to demonstrate the effects of a nuclear weapon on a residential area. It featured small buildings and vehicles, fake mannequins, and a nuclear bomb that would go off at the end of every match.
We're not sure how, but Nuketown 2025 will be a re-imagined version of this map, likely changed to keep up with Black Ops 2's near future setting. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to release on November 13, 2012 along with the Nuketown 2025 map.
