Activision Blizzard Studios' launch marks the start of something new, something wild, something never seen before, Call of Duty feature films.
The new television and film division was launched today by Activision, with the intention to create original content for not only the Call of Duty brand, but for Starcraft, Skylanders and Hearthstone too.
This announcement came via Activision Blizzard's latest press release, it states:
"Another near-term initiative for Activision Blizzard Studios will be the development of a robust cinematic universe based on the Call of Duty franchise.Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare remains the number one-selling title on next-generation consoles(2) and today marks the launch of the highly-anticipated new Call of Duty®: Black Ops III. Activision Blizzard Studios envisions a series of Call of Duty feature films as well as the possibility of television adaptations."
Call of Duty feature films and even a potential TV show is very much a possibility according to Activision, after acquiring Disney's former executive Nick Van Dyk, who is set to operate as a co-president for Blizzard.
The idea of Call of Duty releasing a yearly film, alongside the title, is something to think about or even a series running up to the game's release, however that is merely speculation at this stage.
For those that are familiar with the game, you will notice that there are three timelines for the TV division to explore. Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games all have their own different take on the Call of Duty story, leaving many gamers interested to see where Activision Blizzard takes the franchise next.
