Destiny's House of Wolves — the second expansion for the blockbuster title — is due out this month. It's the last of the expansions covered through the game's Expansion Pass, but it sounds like Activision has even bigger plans for the online shooter.
Speaking during the Activision-Blizzard earnings call yesterday, the publisher teased plans for additional content dropping throughout the summer, leading up to a "major content release" this fall. The publisher teased that release — whatever it may be — will be the "biggest addition to the Destiny universe" to date.
"We have a very robust content plan for Destiny starting with our second major expansion pack, House of Wolves, and then you'll also see content being dropped throughout the summer," Activision Publishing CEO Hirshberg said. "And then in the fall we will have a major release, which will be the biggest addition to the Destiny universe yet, across all modes of play."
"Unfortunately, I don't have more details than that today, but we're confident it's going to be incredibly appealing, not just to our current fans, but also to people who haven't yet joined the Destiny universe; it's going to be that big of an expansion," he teased.
Prior to release, Activision talked about a 10-year vision for Destiny. According to Hirshberg, a "constant stream of robust" content for Destiny is a key component of Activision's plan for the series.
Destiny was initially greeted with disappointment upon release back in September 2014, with many criticizing that Bungie had failed to deliver on its grand vision of an expansive universe. However, through multiple updates and what will be the game's second expansion in House of Wolves, it appears the developer is willing to listen and cater to fans desires. In addition to all of the new content coming with House of Wolves, Bungie is making some serious changes and improvement to the overall gameplay architecture — especially when it comes to leveling up gear.
While we don't know exactly what this big addition will be, it was recently discovered that Bungie had trademarked the name "The Taken King." This trademark was filed by the same attorney listed on The Dark Below and House of Wolves.
Are you willing to give Bungie more time to deliver on its initial promise or is it too late for Destiny?
