My mind is incredibly blown right now. Why is my mind incredibly blown? Because the 2012 Toy Fair in New York is quickly becoming a place full of awesome video game-related news. First there was the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing sequel reveal. Then there was that sweet iCade 8-Bitty retro controller for iOS and Android devices.
Now, another scoop has just popped up at the Toy Fair. As reported on Ninja Pizza, a photo was posted on the Toy Ark website indicating that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was scheduled to enter development. There aren't too many details on the image. It's all really just a bunch of PR mumbo jumbo regarding methods on how to promote the Ninja Turtles license.
There is one thing on that image, however, that really stands out. Apparently, some cross promotion with Activision is in order. Now, I'm pretty sure Activision doesn't make many comic books, cartoons, movies, or toys. So what does this mean? Well, it's very possible that we'll be getting a new Ninja Turtles game soon.
To be honest, I'm equal parts excited and terrified. On the one hand, I really want to see Ninja Turtles–the very source of my favorite cartoon and movies as a kid–come back to video game consoles and make a huge splash in an awesome title. On the other hand, I'm not so certain Activision is the company that can make that happen.
Now, I'm not trying to be a negative guy here, but I mean, let's be real. Activision is mainly known for Call of Duty, and while there are a few franchises such as Skylanders that are actually impressive, the publisher isn't all that great at taking existing IPs and turning them into hits.
Does this mean those rumors regarding Rocksteady's involvement in a NInja Turtles game can be disregarded? Maybe. Is that a total freakin' bummer? Absolutely. Insert sad face here.
