Activision Shuts Down Bizarre Creations [Update]

Update: Activision has released the following statement:

“Over the past three years since our purchase of Bizarre Creations, the fundamentals of the racing genre have changed significantly. Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience. Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business.”

Original story:

Develop Online is reporting that Activision has allegedly shut down Bizarre Creations’ Liverpool studio, giving three months notice to its 200 employees.

These rumors come just weeks after Bizarre’s second Activision game, Blood Stone, released to lukewarm reviews. Like Robomodo, it seems Activision doesn’t take failure lightly.

Although no official announcement has been made, multiple sources (including a number of relevant developers on Twitter) give the rumors weight.

It must be rough working for Kotick always knowing that your next move could be your last…
