Adam Driver channels emo Kylo Ren in SNL promo

The struggle is real for Adam Driver. While filming the new video promoting his upcoming appearance as host of this weekend's Saturday Night Live, The Force Awakens' star got a bit too emotional.

The lighthearted promo takes a turn to the dark side when Kate McKinnon mentions this is the first time they've filmed a promo in the diner, effectively sending Driver into a dark, downward spiral. Driver lands in a place renascent of petulant villain Kylo Ren, whose melodramatic outbursts have sparked tons of internet memes and jokes, including the "Emo Kylo Ren" online persona.

“I know why,” a somber Driver responds. “Because I’m the new guy. And they don’t trust the new guys with the promos in the studio, so they brought us here, to this godforsaken diner to laugh and joke and dance like everything’s okay. But everything’s not okay.”

In all seriousness, Driver has got some amazing acting chops and I can't wait for him to showcase his comedic side. He's already proven he's willing to poke fun at the whole Emo Kylo Ren thing, so I can't wait to see what else is in store for us when he hosts SNL this Saturday, January 16th, at 11:30pm ET on NBC.
