After recent hack attack, Microsoft renewing focus on Cyber security

Back in November, Microsoft opened what they call their Cyber Defense Operations Center, which counters cyber security threats on a daily basis. Last week they were tested when Xbox Live went down under curious circumstances.

Even into the next day, the platform was still experiencing issues, so it was clear that this was no routine maintenance. It wasn't long before a group of hackers, called New World Hackers, claimed responsibility for the attack, which showed just how easy it was to affect the software giant, despite the company spending $1 billion on security in 2015.

One of the biggest focal points in the company's defense is an emerging technology known as machine learning, which watches for what attacks might look like to be able to better improve defenses.

Obviously, it's a bit disconcerting when a group of hackers claim they can "honestly knock Xbox off the face of the Earth" and then showcase the potential to do so. Microsoft has some work to do in countering such attacks, but rest assured they appear to be sparing no expense to do so.
