It looks like that Neill Blomkamp Alien film isn't happening – at least according to director Ridley Scott who was working as a producer on the film. Alien 5 had intended to be a sequel to the original Alien films, but Scott is pretty focused on his prequel series right now.
Recently, Scott revealed the name of the next 'Alien' movie, calling it Alien: Awakening, but that's technically not Alien 5 – the movie that was coming from director Neill Blomkamp. Alien: Awakening is actually the third installment in the Prometheus/Alien series, which is seeing Alien: Covenant release this month (a direct sequel to Prometheus).
"I don't think it will ever see the light of day," Scott said (via ScreenRant). "There was never a script. Just an idea that evolved from a dozen or so pages. I had to participate as producer, but it didn't go farther because Fox decided it didn't want to do it. As far I was concerned, I had already done Prometheus and I was working on Covenant."
It can be pretty confusing to keep track of whether the films are Alien prequels (Prometheus) or whether they are after the events of the original Alien films, especially since the Prometheus films switched to using 'Alien" in the title.
In other news, Scott made it clear that he was down for another "six" Alien movies, but judging by the statement above, Blomkamp's Alien 5 isn't one of them.
