Alien director Ridley Scott says superhero movies are unbelievable

Ridley Scott, the man behind the Alien series and Blade Runner has revealed that he has been asked to direct superhero movies and he's turned down the offer every time. According to Scott, there's something unbelievable about superhero movies – which, in a way, means that there's something more believable about aliens that lay eggs in your throat and burst out of your chest.

"Superhero movies are not my kind of thing – that's why I've never really done one," he said."[I've been asked] several times, but I can't believe in the thin, gossamer tight-rope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero," said Scott to DigitalSpy.

Chest-bursters aside, Scott says that heroes like Batman and Superman could have had a place in a world like Blade Runner's – but it would need a "good story, as opposed to no story." It's unclear if that was some sort of stab and the dark and gritty Batman v Superman.

"I've done that kind of movie – Blade Runner really is a comic strip when you think about it, it's a dark story told in an unreal world. You could almost put Batman or Superman in that world, that atmosphere, except I'd have a f**king good story, as opposed to no story!"

Altogether, Scott is pretty disillusioned with movies currently, saying that "cinema mainly is pretty bad" and that he's "concerned" for its future prospects.

Really, sci-fi, fantasy, superhero and a majority of action films are unbelievable, but isn't that something we go to the theater for – to suspend belief and immerse ourselves in an entirely different world?
