Aliens: Colonial Marines Wii U version canceled

Nintendo lost out on another game for the Wii U. Fortunately, it was SEGA's Aliens: Colonial Marines.  The Wii U version of the game missed its original March release window, signaling trouble for the game. Our suspicions were confirmed today.

"SEGA can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development," SEGA told GameZone.

It's not clear why Aliens: Colonial Marines for Wii U was canceled, but I suspect it has something to do with the game's negative publicity. The game scored just a 5.5/10 here on GameZone, while averaging just a 48/100 on Metacritic. Flat textures, generic gameplay, and flawed AI logic were just a few of the game's biggest criticisms. In fact, there was so much disparity between what we were shown in trailers and what we actually played that SEGA agreed to add disclaimers to the game's trailers.

Still, despite it's awful reviews, there was still some hope for the Wii U version — if only for the feeling of holding a motion tracker with the Wii U GamePad. Unfortunately, I'll never know how that feels and the baby T-Rex aliens will be forever engrained in my memory.
