Amy Hennig insists that her upcoming game won’t be ‘Star Wars Uncharted’

There is so much Star Wars in the game development pipeline that for fans, there is a lot to potentially be excited about. I say potentially because we've barely caught more than a glimpse of what these games will end up being. Visceral's, for example, was long rumored to be an Open-World RPG, which has since been denied by the studio. As exciting a prospect as that would be, how can Star Wars be an open world game when a big part of its charm is traveling to multiple worlds. And before you say "just make multiple open worlds," get a job in game development and let me know how that one turns out.

Visceral's Star Wars game, whatever it is, is heading up by former Naughty Dog Creative Director and Uncharted writer, Amy Hennig, and as such, the natural assumptions of parallels between the adventures of Nathan Drake and a galaxy far, far away have set in.

Speaking to Glixel, Hennig explicitly states that creating "Star Wars Uncharted" is not the goal of the project. She does say that when EA initially approached her about making a Star Wars game is that the company was looking to make a "scrappy" third person action adventure game, which in some respects, does sound a bit like Uncharted. Hennig says that the game will be made with the same spirit, but will aim to be its own thing.

As you can see from the early footage clip above, the game looks like it will be set sometime during the Imperial regime, with the protagonist potentially being a rebel, which connects to the idea of the game being "scrappy."

The only other thing Hennig notes as a difference is that games like Uncharted tend to focus primarily on what the hero is doing in the moment and that the villains only come along in an encounter. Whereas in Star Wars, the audience is actively viewing what the villains are up to as the movies cut between the good guys and the bad guys.

Villain gameplay confirmed? No, but it's something to keep in mind.
