Let's be honest, football is great here in America, but soccer — or fútbol, rather — is the world's sport. As such, Robert W. Baird & Co. analyst Colin Sebastian believes FIFA 14 sales will triple that of Madden NFL 25, which has sold about one million copies in its first week, according to EA's internal estimates.
“While Madden sales are another ‘yellow flag,’" Sebastian said, referring to the year-over-year decline in Madden's sales, "at this point we would use sector weakness as a buying opportunity ahead of stronger sales trends likely beginning later this month.
“Importantly, the September launch of FIFA 14 is a more important driver of revenues and profits, and we expect this global franchise to sell roughly in line with last year quantities, as fans gear up for the upcoming World Cup year.
“For context, we expect roughly three-times the unit sales of FIFA 14 versus Madden 25 in the quarter, with units each contributing roughly 35% and 10-15% to fiscal Q2 revenues, respectively," he concluded.
Prior to the game's release, EA Sports acknowledged lower-than-usual pre-order numbers for Madden NFL 25 on current-gen consoles but maintained FIFA 14 was still seeing "great anticiaption around the world." EA's Peter Moore also expects sales to pick up with the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One, both of which will see a revitalized Madden NFL running on the brand new Ignite Engine.
