Speculation on when Nintendo's new console, codenamed NX, will release has been at the forefront of Nintendo enthusiasts minds since the concept was announced. Supply manufacturers for Nintendo have suggested that the NX could launch this summer, whether or not that is true remains unconfirmed by Nintendo.
Analyst Junko Yamamura of Nomura Securities believes that the supply manufacturers were on the correct path at guessing when the NX will release. Yamamura's own predictions have the NX releasing towards the end of 2016, with the NX being revealed as soon as March or May and release between October and November.
On top of that, Yamamura and Nomura Securities believe that the NX will cannibalize 3DS and Wii U sales, since sales for the two have begun to drop off. "We have lowered our estimates for current consoles to reflect the present situation, fiercer competition, and what has happened in the past when new hardware is announced," said Analyst firm (via Barron's Asia). By 2017, Nomura Securities believes the NX will begin to boost operating profits for Nintendo and "will have a line-up of software titles."
