Archaeology and Google Earth have possibly discovered new Egyptian pyramids

When it comes to really awesome apps that have infinitely practical uses but I just use to zoom in and out of people I know’s houses, Google Earth is on the top of that list.  Despite how I use the app wrong, archaeologist Angela Micol has been using the program as part of her research.  In Maiden, North Carolina, Angela has been conducting satellite research for over ten years through Google Earth.

While doing this research, she stumbled upon two locations in Egypt that is quite similar to the Giza pyramids everyone is so familiar with.  The two locations are only 90 miles apart from one another.  These ‘undiscovered’ potential pyramids are an extremely exciting find.  Scientist will use infra-red satellite imagery to confirm if there are pyramids here or not before sending in excavation teams.

On this, Micol said, ““The images speak for themselves. It’s very obvious what the sites may contain but field research is needed to verify they are, in fact, pyramids and evidence should be gathered to determine their origins. It is my hunch there is much more to these sites and with the use of Infrared imagery, we can see the extent of the proposed complexes in greater detail.”

The historian in me is beyond excited for this potential find.  You better believe I’ll be following future development on this story.
