ARK: Survival Evolved now open to Unreal Engine 4 modding

It was only a matter of time, but the mega popular dinosaur survival game, ARK: Survival Evolved has gotten modding support with Unreal Engine 4 as a part of a newly formed partnership with Epic Games.  Players who have purchased the game can begin modding immediately and share what they make through the Steam Workshop.

"ARK provides a brilliantly creative universe for modding, and a wealth of beautiful environments and dinosaur content to build upon,” said Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic. “Many of us here began in the mod community, so we’re grateful to see Studio Wildcard open up their creative work to a new generation of programmers, artists, and designers."

ARK: Survival Evolved is an open world survival game taking place in a pre-historic land flush with roaming dinosaurs that can be battled or tamed.  Players start out with literally nothing, as a naked man or woman stranded on a mysterious island, cold and starving.  The game builds on the foundations that many survival games before it have laid down, with hunting and harvesting resources, crafting and shelter construction being the main pillars of gameplay.

Developer, Studio Wildcard also announced that ARK: Survival Evolved has surpassed 1 million copies sold on Steam Early Access.

For players who are interested in getting started with modding, members from the development team will be stopping by Epic Games' weekly twitch stream this week on Twitch.tv/UnrealEngine on Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET.  If you can't wait to get your modding fix, you can get a tutorial from the ARK: Survival Evolved website, then head over to the forums on the Unreal Engine website for more help and ideas from like-minded modders.

ARK: Survival Evolved is currently only available for PC on Steam but is due to release on Playstation 4 and Xbox One at an unspecified date in the future.
