Ubisoft has unleashed a number of details for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Tuesday, including information on the present day situation and the inclusion of a season pass.
According to the developer, the amount of time players will spend in the present day at Abstergo Entertainment will depend on how they play the game.
“In total, if you were to do everything in the present day – find everything, hack every computer, access every room – it’s a solid three to five hours. For the main path – the stuff you’re required to do – it’s somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes. You leave the Animus five times during the game’s main path and each time you’re there for about three to four minutes.
“It’s there to progress the story because there’s this meta story that we’re telling. Why are you researching Edward? Why him specifically? What did he do that’s interesting? There is a story that connects everything together. We pretty much tried to boil it down to its most core essence because we know there are people out there who really don’t like the present day, and that’s okay. You don’t have to like it, but it’s part of the brand. For the people who like the present day and are big fans, we put in a lot of fan service and a lot of fun optional content. You get to choose if you want it or not.”
In addition, “What the F–k Moments,” meaning the supernatural element the series has always included, will be present once again.
“You see what happens after Assassin’s Creed III – you see the ramifications of that, and we push it further.”
Tuesday, Ubisoft also shed light on the first DLC pack that will be included in the game’s season pass, which will be sold at retail for $19.99, representing “20 percent” in savings versus buying each add-on individually.
“Freedom Cry” will the first the add-on for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. A trailer was released Tuesday, explaining the backstory for the new character players will be playing as: Adewale.
Adewale is a former slave, and was also a second-in-command officer for the game’s protagonist, Edward Kenway. The DLC will pit the character shortly after his gift of freedom as he attempts to gain a crew and ship for the adventures that lie before him.
Aside from Freedom Cry, other DLC packs will include the “Kraken Ship Pack,” multiplayer characters, and more that will likely be announced after the game’s release on October 29 (current gen).
