Ubisoft wants to make an Assassin’s Creed theatrical film! This is exciting news except… it doesn’t look like Ubisoft will crack on their demands. While at first this news sounds rage worthy – knowing the ‘why’ behind Ubisoft’s ‘hold out’ position is comforting. Before Ubisoft agrees to sell the rights to the Assassin’s Creed feature film, they want to have their fingers in it enough to make sure the producers don’t ruin it. Ubisoft wants control over: casting, budget, script and when it will be released. Because of this high demand – DreamWorks, Universal, and Warner Bros studios have and dropped out as possible producers of the film. With the largest companies already out of the picture; it appears that the Assassin’s Creed film will never be made.
The question of juxtaposition arises, ‘is this a good thing then?’ Do you protect the sanctity of love towards the Assassin’s Creed series but NOT make a film, or is the desire for a film outweigh a few types of ‘Hollywood magic’ altercations? This is a dilemma.
Personally, I like Ubisoft’s choice to hold out until someone agrees to their terms; sort of a ‘go big or go home’ sort of view on it. Why desecrate something, through Hollywood magic? While AC fans would love to see a movie – they would much prefer an accurate film than the video-game-made-movie-garbage which is mostly out there already. Do I even have to MENTION the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie!? *Drop microphone, walk away.*
