Avalanche has posted a new trailer for their upcoming open-world destruction game Just Cause 4. The development diary video highlights the new Apex Engine, the tech powering their new game and enabling a huge world with tons of opportunities.
Just Cause 4 has some big shoes to fill. After the debut title in the franchise went mostly under the radar, it was the second game which became a surprise hit with gamers. The sheer scope of the map and insane destruction possible, couple with the intuitive grappling-hook firmly put developer Avalanche studios on the map. The follow-up Just Cause 3 didn’t quite manage to become the game it was expected sadly, with technical issues on consoles and a rather by-the-books approach to a sequel.
So, it is understandable that the fourth entry to the Just Cause series is appearing quicker than one might have expected. Publisher Square-Enix did unveil Just Cause 4 just recently during this year’s E3, with the release date being disclosed almost simultaneously – albeit after getting leaked before the game’s reveal. Seeing, that Just Cause is planned for a release this year, on December 4th, the time-span between reveal and release is pretty close.
No matter how known a franchise is, without adequate media promotion games can have it rough to become successful. So, Avalanche has been steadily releasing gameplay trailers and developer diaries, to ramp up the excitement among fans. Being available on the same platforms as its predecessor, similarities in visual fidelity do pose a risk for Just Cause 4 to stand on its own more clear.
It’s probably one of the reasons why Avalanche Studios has made it one of their goals to add and refine the experience in Just Cause 4, with new additions to the series in form of weather anomalies. Thunderstorms, blizzards, sandstorms and more will give series veterans a new type of experience. But there’s more to the newest version of the tech behind Just Cause 4, the Apex Engine. Developers in the new trailer Apex Power are not holding back with praise for their new engine, promising never-before-seen visual fidelity, physical destructibility and even touching quickly on better performance.
Just Cause 4 will release this December the 4th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
